Pain Management with TENS Machine & Hot/Cold Pack
TENS Machine
A TENS machine is a small, battery-operated device that has leads connected to sticky pads called electrodes. In fact, you attach the pads directly to your skin. When the machine is switched on, small electrical impulses are delivered to the affected area of your body, which you feel as a tingling sensation. The electrical impulses can reduce the pain signals going to the spinal cord and brain, which may help to relieve your pain and relax muscles. They may also stimulate the production of endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers. The pain-relief effect is almost immediate with almost no side effect. Watch our video now to learn how to use.
Cold Therapy
Other than TENS machine, cold therapy is effective too. It works by reducing blood flow to a particular area, which can greatly reduce inflammation that causes swelling and pain. Hence, it is more suitable to be used in acute pain with severe swelling, such as a joint sprain or new bruises. However, people with sensory disorders (eg. diabetics) should not use cold therapy because their skin may not be sensitive enough to feel if damage is being done. Watch our video now to learn how to use.
Heat Therapy
Other than TENS Machine, heat therapy is effective too. It works by improving circulation and blood flow to a particular area due to increased temperature. In addition, increasing the temperature of the afflicted area can soothe discomfort and increase muscle flexibility. Hence, heat therapy is suitable to be used in chronic pain for relaxation and soothing effect so as to heal damaged tissue. However, heat therapy also should not be applied to an area with an open wound. Watch our video now to learn how to use.
