FWD Takaful today (March 20) announced the enhanced coverage of FWD SpecialMed and FWD CI First. FWD Takaful aims to provide access to protection and expand the financial safety nets to the underserved segments in Malaysia.
Salim Majod Zain, FWD Takaful’s CEO, said, “FWD Takaful believes that everyone deserves the coverage they need. We’re glad to contribute and enhance the coverage of two of our plans that aim to support more Malaysians financially in times of medical emergencies. We also plan to broaden the scope of the coverage to include other disabilities and pre-existing conditions in the future. At FWD Takaful, we always strive to stay apprised of our community’s needs and offer the best-suited coverage, changing the way people feel about takaful.”
It is challenging to get coverage for individuals with learning disabilities, including down syndrome, as exclusions are commonly found in insurance or takaful plans. To address this issue, FWD Takaful has now expanded FWD SpecialMed benefits to include individuals with down syndrome. FWD SpecialMed is an online medical plan tailored to prioritise the needs of individuals with mild to moderate learning disabilities and to help resolve key challenges they faced when seeking medical care. FWD SpecialMed offers a 20% discount for customers who cover an individual with learning disabilities that also include down syndrome*.
Similarly, individuals diagnosed with diabetes may also face difficulty obtaining coverage or keeping up with future treatment costs. FWD CI First is now available for individuals diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes*. FWD CI First is a plan that offers protection in the event of a critical illness and untreatable critical illness conditions.
To complement this offer, FWD Takaful has partnered with Alpro Pharmacy to provide a complimentary diabetes management programme* to support these Type 2 diabetic* customers who have participated in FWD CI First in monitoring, controlling, and improving their glucose levels. Customers may pay lower contribution for the first three certificate years in reward for good control of their glucose levels.
Ph Lee Yin Chen, Alpro Pharmacy’s Branding, Promotion and Trade Marketing Director & E Commerce Lead, said, “We’re delighted to partner with FWD Takaful and join our country’s fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly diabetes. This is in line with our mission of providing professional healthcare advice for the betterment of our community. Through our digitalised diabetic care programme, Sugo365, we aim to empower Type 2 diabetic patients to achieve their health goals through better monitoring, control and professional support from endocrinologists, doctors, pharmacists, nutritionists, dietitians and physiotherapists. We go beyond just refilling prescriptions for diabetics. We also hope to assist these patients in making sustainable lifestyle changes for improved mental, physical and financial health.”
