Both of condoms and oral contraceptive pills are popular contraception methods around the world.
There are many misconceptions surrounding birth control especially the options and measures available to ensure it. While there are many different contraception choices, a lot of people are unaware of what to choose and when.
They work differently
For the pills, apart from inhibiting ovulation, it also works by altering the lining of the uterus that makes it difficult for an implantation to occur. Condoms, on the other hand, act as a physical barrier and do not let sperm to enter the vagina, thereby preventing fertilization.
They provide different benefits
For people who just started on oral contraceptive pill, condom will still be needed for the first 7 days while waiting for the hormonal effect to kick in. Unless you start your contraceptive pill on the first day of your period then you will be protected against pregnancy right away.
However, although both condom & pill able to prevent pregnancy, condom offer additional benefits of protection against a sexually transmitted disease (STD) compare to pills.
It is always wise to reach out to a healthcare professional who can guide a couple as to what would work best for them if they are looking to family planning.
